Every year our town hosts the Fireworks Festival which attracts tens of thousands of visitors over the weekend. Main Street is closed for three blocks on the Saturday and the street is lined with classic cars from all over Ontario. Another street is closed for the motorcycle show and street vendors are found at various locations. The shops have their windows decorated to celebrate the festival and many of them also have sidewalk sales which are fun to browse through. Face painting, temporary tattoos, science demonstrations, music playing, street performances and amusement rides (at one of the parks) all add to the fun. Many of the local organizations get involved hosting breakfasts on Saturday or Sunday morning or having barbecues right on Main Street. There are smiles all around.
This is the first year (*gasp*) that we've actually gone to see the fireworks. It was well worth it! I tried out the fireworks setting on the camera and was pleasantly surprised at the results!
