Short Road Trip

Today we took a little trip to a homeschool supply store to pick up some math and science books. The place we went to, the JOY Center for Learning is located a little more than half an hour from us, in Shelburne. It's just a warehouse, but you can go in to browse by making an appointment. It was a bit crowded as they had just received several large shipments and were in the middle of unpacking it all. The people were really friendly. One woman found some things for my boys to play with while I had a chance to check out the books I was interested in. They gave each of the boys a ball as we left because they had "been so well-behaved". I'm so glad they didn't see what went on in the van just as we were leaving!

On the way home Andrew started reading the Life of Fred Fractions book and doing some of the calculations in his head. He went to his room when we got in and continued reading it. He finished reading that one and moved onto the Decimals book, just to continue reading the story! lol! He plans on doing the actual math part of the texts; he just enjoyed the humour and story so much he wanted more! His current goal is to get through the Fractions, Decimals and Beginning Algebra texts by Christmas. We'll see how motivated he stays. He did start the problems on paper during his reading time tonight.

The other two books we bought were Christian Kids Explore Physics and CKE Chemistry. We already have the biology book and have enjoyed it. Andrew especially has been wanting a physics book and while he's been happy going through an old grade 11 chemistry text we have, it doesn't have the hands-on stuff he's eager for.

We'll probably get to some bookish work next week.
