Orange/Black Belts

On May 29, the boys had another Tae Kwon Do colour belt testing. It was again a two-hour long testing, but the instructor made a number of changes this time. Students were called up in small groups of three or four to do their patterns which enabled the instructors to watch all of them and grade them accordingly. Matthew and Nicholas were each singled out during their patterns for putting a lot of power into each move. They were thrilled! The hand techniques and one-step sparring was done in four pairs, one pair in each corner of the room, again so that each pair could be observed.

The entire advanced class did very well again! There were fewer younger students testing this time, but those who did really made a good effort. Our boys are excited because obtaining this belt level now puts them on track to test for their green belts in the fall. Andrew had put this down as a goal of his at the beginning of the year so he is very aware of where he is on reaching that goal!

We are planning to take a bit of a TKD break for the summer. Swim team starts next week and that will be twice a week for the last two weeks of June, then become three times a week, plus four optional swim meets, through July and most of August. The last two weeks of June will be busy ones though...Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for TKD; Tuesdays and Thursdays for swim team. Glad it's not me!!!

At least they are not doing the higher belt tests - they are three hours long!!! It's not just about skill, it's about endurance. The very first one they did and this most recent one, they were not even allowed a water break which was silly, in my opinion. The second testing they went for they were allowed to take a quick water break. At least during the actual classes they are given that opportunity to replenish what they are losing! lol!
