Geocaching

We decided to give geocaching another try this year. The kids had been asking and it's something I'm interested in doing so we borrowed Adrian's Mum's GPS and away we went. Our first day was...disappointing. Out of four stops we found absolutely nothing. At one of the stops, we knew we were at the right location, but couldn't find the cache. Others have since been to the same site and said they couldn't find it either, so maybe it's missing. The other three sites we just couldn't get the coordinates right. This turned out to be a big oops on my part. I wrote down the posted coordinates and didn't realise they were in a different format than the GPS was reading. No wonder we were going way off! At least we had a nice picnic at one of the stops and Adrian, bless him, didn't complain once though I know he wanted to.

Not a big deal. We figured it out as soon as we got home and checked out the site again.

We decided to give it another try last Saturday afternoon with a different cache that was on our way to a nearby town. Our problem this time? Not relying on the GPS! lol! We were 'sure' that the cache was in a certain spot, even though the coordinates were not quite right. Adrian took some photos of us, weaving our way through the bullrushes at the side of the road. He didn't laugh too much. At least not where I could hear him. We had taken Panda with us, so he stayed with her near the van since we were at the side of the highway. Smart guy!

Once we got to where we were going the kids had a good time playing at the park. We had gone to find out where the pool was in this town so we'd know where to go for the swim meet. Panda enjoyed a quick romp around the park, too.

Sounds like a lot of fun, Shannon. I've heard a lot about this, but have never tried it myself...perhaps something for us to look into
